I have been on holidays for 1 week and go back to work on the 9th. I thought I would spend my days off work sewing, and sewing, and sewing, but, in all honesty, I spent everyday sleeping till noon, watching Desperate Housewives and eating way too much carbs. I've never been happier :D
Yesterday I ventured outside, in the sunlight and took my sister to lunch. Before lunch, we did a little shop, to look for fabric for her dress. We hit Lincraft, didn't find anything stunning. I bought some royal blue home spun cotton though. I hate leaving empty handed. Then we went to GJ Fabrics, East Brunwick. I have been meaning to visit for a while now, and finally did yesterday. So happy that I did! The store is a wonderland! I restrained myself and only bought some stretch satin that my sister liked. It is a bluish purple - violet? It was the exact shade of blue that I have been hunting for! It was shiny, but no overly shiny. It was perfection. I also picked up a bunch of zippers. I found a long jacket zipper, and used that to fixed my Burnt Orange Mini Dress so now I can put it on and take it off comfortably.
I actually didn't end up wearing that dress for NYE, it was just too hot! The neck is too high, and I felt suffocated. I actually almost suffocated when I tried taking it off after deciding not to wear it. I was hot and clammy, and the dress was stuck to my body and would not go over my head. I was in a panic for 2 minutes, wondering who was going to find me stuck inside a dress, suffocated to death. Luckily I got it off, and luckily I have replaced the zip so that will never, ever happen. I wore my cobalt mini skirt instead.
Back to my pattern review.
For this version of the M5845, I cut a size 8 for my sister. I left the darts on the inside like the last time, but next time, I am making the darts on the outside. I was watching episode 11 of Revenge, and Victoria Grayson was wearing a dress with outside darts, and it looked great!
Revenge, episode 11.
I made the neck line lower. I used the bodice pattern from another dress, and used it to trace a curve to lower the neck line. I made a toile (muslin) to make sure the neck looked good. It is much more comfortable to wear now.
|Alteration to the neck.|
The dress fits like a dream on my sister, J.
J's measurements are: 86cm-75cm-90cm.
According to the sizing for BMV pattern measurements, she should be 12-16-12.
I cut her an 8. The fit is perfect. I didn't even have to adjust the back seam allowance!
